About Youth Advisory Council
The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) serves under the direction of At-Large Councilmember Karen White. YAC aims to foster young peoples’ passion for local politics by introducing them to the legislative process of South Bend and engaging them with hands-on community service activities to get them involved in their local districts. Young people will learn about the local legislative process by engaging with city department heads and elected officials on the South Bend Common Council, cumulating in a sample budget students will present to the Council during the Fall budget season. The YAC serves as junior members to the Common Council. This is an opportunity for passionate young people to learn more about the pivotal role municipal politics has on local communities, and as a springboard for their future engagement in politics.
