How do I start water service if I’m a homeowner?
If you own the property, you can start water service by visiting the web portal Apply for New Service. Be sure to have your property information ready (ex: owner’s photo ID and proof of ownership).

How do I start water service if I’m renting?
Tenants can start water service by completing a Tenant Application and emailing it along with a copy of their photo ID to 311@southbendin.gov. You may also bring the documents in person to the Water Works office at 125 W Colfax.
Please note: The property owner must also submit a completed Owner Authorization form as part of the setup process.
Is trash pickup automatically included with water service?
Is trash pickup automatically included with water service?
Yes, residential trash pickup is included with your water service. No need to set it up separately, service will begin once your water account is active.
Are recycling charges included in my water bill?
Are recycling charges included in my water bill?
No, Recycling fees are collected on County Property tax rolls. Please visit the website Recycle Fees for more information.
