April 22, 2024 — City of South Bend Mayor James Mueller, University of Notre Dame President Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C., Visit South Bend Mishawaka Executive Director Jeff Jarnecke and President of the St. Joseph County Hotel Motel Tax Board of Managers John Anthony will mark the completion of the new Link Trail with a walk and ribbon cutting on Thursday, April 24.
The event will begin with a walk at 10 am starting at the southeast corner of Notre Dame Avenue at Angela Boulevard. Mayor Mueller, Father Dowd, Jeff Jarnecke and John Anthony will lead the walk south along the completed trail. The walk will conclude at the northeast corner of South Bend Avenue and Notre Dame Avenue, where a ribbon cutting will take place at 10:30 am.
The Link Trail spans 1.5 miles and connects downtown South Bend with the University of Notre Dame. The urban trail begins in downtown South Bend in the plaza on the corner of LaSalle Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Boulevard. It takes pedestrians and bicyclists east on LaSalle Avenue, north on Hill Street, then northeast on South Bend Avenue to join Notre Dame Avenue. The trail culminates at the Angela Boulevard and Notre Dame Avenue intersection where users can continue to the University of Notre Dame campus or join the multiuse path along Angela Boulevard.
The project was funded jointly by the City, Hotel-Motel Tax Board via Visit South Bend Mishawaka and the University of Notre Dame.
