Councilwoman Ophelia Gooden-Rodgers is the 2nd District Councilwoman. Ophelia is married to her loving husband, Johnnie Rodgers, and they have two daughters; Arnez Lee and Ebony Ewing. She also has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ophelia Gooden-Rodgers is proud to serve as the 2nd District Common Councilwoman.
As a lifelong resident of South Bend, Ophelia Gooden-Rodgers is committed to serving the South Bend community. Gooden-Rodgers was raised on the West side of South Bend. She then went on to raise her own children and grandchildren on that very same side of town. Because of her roots in the West side, she is very dedicated to seeing the revitalization and flourishing of the 2nd district. Councilwoman Ophelia Gooden-Rodgers attended Linden Grade School, Central Junior High, and she is a proud graduate of the former Lasalle High School. Post-graduation, Gooden-Rodgers worked as a forklift driver at AM General Corporation for forty-one years. After retirement in January 2015, Councilwoman Gooden-Rodgers decided to go back to work for the South Bend Community School Corporation in August 2017.
As a devoted and active member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Ophelia Gooden-Rodges serves as a Senior Usher and the Chairman of the Sunday Breakfast Committee.
Councilwoman Gooden-Rodgers’ strong ties to the South Bend community have motivated her to fulfill a lifetime of servant leadership in many capacities. She stands ready to continue her life of service as the new 2nd District Councilwoman. Councilwoman Ophelia Gooden-Rodgers believes in diversity and fully commits herself to serving ALL people.
