Today, Mayor James Mueller announced his appointment of Katrina Lee as Human Rights Commission Executive Director, effective January 29.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Katrina to our team,” said Mayor James Mueller. “She brings a wealth of experience and strong passion for equality and justice that will serve our Human Rights Commission team well. I look forward to working with her to build a fairer and more just city.”

Katrina was born in Memphis, TN but has lived in South Bend for the majority of her life. She graduated from Riley High School and later earned her Associate’s degree in paralegal studies from Indiana University South Bend and Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management from Bethel University. Katrina is married to Darrick Lee, Sr. and has 3 sons and 4 granddaughters.

Katrina worked for Saint Joseph Health System for 32 years, with most of her experience coming from the Legal and Compliance Department for 26 years as the Director of Legal, Integrity and Privacy. She also conducted investigations and provided compliance and HIPAA training. During her time there, she chaired the Integrity and Compliance Committee, the Providers Compliance Onboarding Committee, and co-chaired the Diversity Council Committee. She also completed SJHS’s management program and Trinity Health’s Leadership mentor program.

“I am excited to join a team where I can be a servant of this community and be a champion for equality,” said Human Rights Commission Director, Katrina Lee. “I plan to assist in creating meaningful and positive change for the residents of South Bend and St. Joseph County.”
