The South Bend Human Rights Commission, along with the Cities of South Bend and Mishawaka, is sponsoring the Human Rights Awareness and Awards Luncheon and Fair Housing Workshop on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Palais Royale.
This year’s keynote speaker is George Fatheree, Esq., He is the CEO and ORO Impact. This year’s theme is “Human Rights: From Passion & Preparation to Possibility & Purpose”
We have previously hosted notable speakers such as former Notre Dame Head Football Coach Charlie Weis, former President and CEO of Saint Joseph Health System Albert L. Gutierrez and; former CEO of Beacon Health System, Inc. Philip A. Newbold, former President and CEO Schurz Communications Todd Schurz; Joe Hart, President, South Bend Cubs; Scott Ruszkowski, Chief of the South Bend Police Department; Dr. Redgina Hill, Vice President for Inclusion & Equity at Saint Mary’s College; and last year’s speaker former CEI & Opportunity Officer, State of Indiana, Karrah Herring, J.D. and last year’s speaker Joshua Barr, Esq. CS & President of Raising the Barr.
The event will include a housing workshop and panel discussion on the Fair Housing Act of 1968, presented by HUD and its partners Doneisha Posey, Esq. and Joshua Barr, Esq. from 8:15 am – 11:15 am. During the luncheon, we will recognize individuals and organizations committed to human rights in our communities with awards in Housing, Employment, Education, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Public Accommodation. We will also award scholarships to local students and present human rights community service awards to some impressive high school students.
