City’s Leaf Pickup Program Resumes March 23

city seal for the City of South Bend

March 4, 2026 – The City of South Bend’s Leaf Pickup Program will resume Monday, March 23, weather permitting. The program was paused in late November due to heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures.

Pickup will begin in Zone 7 where it was suspended last fall. Crews will collect leaves street by street and complete the entire zone before moving to the next. After finishing the first round of pickup in Zones 7 through 9, crews will return to Zone 1 to begin a second pass through the city.

The pickup schedule is provided below and attached for your reference. Residents DO NOT need to call to request a pickup. All dates are weather permitting and subject to change. Residents are encouraged to check southbendin.gov/leafpickup for the most up-to-date schedule.

PLACE LEAVES AT CURB BY:

  • Zone 1: April 1
  • Zone 2: April 3
  • Zone 3: April 7
  • Zone 4: April 9
  • Zone 5: April 13
  • Zone 6: April 15
  • Zone 7: March 23 & April 17
  • Zone 8: March 25 & April 21
  • Zone 9: March 30 & April 23

Below are guidelines that residents are asked to follow for the Leaf Pickup program:

  • Leaves should be raked to the tree lawn area, NOT into the street, by 6 am on the scheduled set out date.
  • Leaves should be free of sticks, trash and other debris or they will not be picked up.
  • Cars should not be parked on top or in front of leaf piles along curb lines, as this hampers leaf collection.
  • Leaf burning is prohibited and is a violation of City ordinance.
