May 1, 2023 — The City of South Bend’s Fire Department will host a public presentation on Thursday, May 4 at 6 pm at Fire Station 8 to discuss upcoming plans to rebuild the station. City officials will present information on the new station design and construction timeline.
The new station will accommodate both male and female firefighters. It will also include safety systems to ensure cancerous contaminants from the apparatus bay and firefighters’ gear do not enter the quarters where firefighters live during their 24-hour shifts.
Located at 2402 S. Twyckenham Dr., the current station was built in 1957.
