November 2, 2022 — The City of South Bend has partnered with several community organizations to host a series of sign-up events to help eligible South Bend residents apply for assistance programs that can help cover past-due water bills as well as current and future payments for electric, heating and water expenses. Staff members from these organizations will be available to walk residents through the sign-up process and answer any questions they may have.
The Utility Assistance Program helps customers reduce their water and sewer bill by up to $25.50 every month if they meet income guidelines and receive sewer service from the City. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is a federally funded program that provides a one-time annual benefit during winter months to assist qualifying households with electric, heating and water expenses.
A schedule of current sign-up events is listed below. More events are being planned and will be added to southbendin.gov/support once they are finalized.
