City Seeks Input on Draft EV Infrastructure Plan

south bend city flag

October 2, 2023 — The City of South Bend invites the public to offer feedback on its draft Community Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Plan. The Plan identifies strategic needs and opportunities to improve equitable charging access and support progress towards South Bend’s EV future. Through the creation of this Plan, the City will be prepared to take full advantage of upcoming federal grant opportunities to support the development of a convenient and reliable charging network, which will help the City accelerate EV adoption.

The public can view the draft plan at southbendin.gov/sustainability and provide feedback to City staff by emailing EVPlan@southbendin.gov. Public feedback will be collected through Wednesday, November 1.

Transitioning to a cleaner transportation system will enable the City to address climate change in alignment with its Climate Action Plan, Carbon Neutral 2050. The Plan identifies energy and transportation focused strategies to reduce community-wide greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050 and additionally improve air quality. Since emissions associated with passenger vehicles make up approximately 20 percent of community emissions, EV adoption will play a critical role in meeting community goals.

The City’s Sustainability Office developed the EV Infrastructure Plan with Brendle Group, a sustainability consulting firm. During the planning process, several meetings were held with community members to get their input, which has informed the draft Plan.
