The City of South Bend invites you to participate in the 2024 update to the Climate Action Plan (CAP). In 2019, South Bend’s first Climate Action Plan established a goal of eliminating pollution by the year 2050. The plan must be updated every 5 years.
“We are excited to work with the community and chart our course to a future that is equitable, sustainable and resilient,” said Mayor James Mueller. “Addressing climate change will require all of us, and this update to our Climate Action Plan will develop strategies that resonate with our South Bend community.”
Public participation in the climate action planning process will be facilitated through virtual and in-person opportunities from April to September 2024, including:
- Downtown South Bend First Fridays on May 3and June 7
- Linden Avenue Farmers Market on June 15 and July 20 (3419 W Washington)
- Climate Action Planning event on July 11 from 4:30-6:30pm at the IU South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center (1040 W Washington St.)
Additionally, the Office of Sustainability is recruiting a new cohort of Climate Action Ambassadors. Ambassadors will seek feedback from community members on draft climate action strategies, and can represent themselves, a community group, or a local business.
