BUTTIGIEG ANNOUNCES PROGRESS ON FIRE STATION NO. 9
Today, Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced the planned acquisition of land on Mishawaka Ave. for the construction of a new Fire Station No. 9. The new station at this site will improve the quality of fire and emergency medical services for the neighborhood. “The proposed solution for the new fire station will improve fire and emergency medical services for the River Park neighborhood, while preserving the City’s green spaces,” said Buttigieg. “I am thankful to Fire Chief Steve Cox, Councilmembers, and interested community members for their help balancing many important factors in this decision.” Agreements with the current landowners are set to go before the Board of Public Works on Tuesday, March 28th. The new fire station will also be able to host ambulance and river rescue equipment that the old station 9 could not. “We are excited to announce the acquisition of property for the relocation of Fire Station No. 9. After much collaboration with community stakeholders, and a continued focus on a solution that reflects the operational needs of the Fire Department and which incorporates feedback gained from extensive community outreach, a viable site has been selected,” said Chief Cox. Chief Cox will hold media availability at 1pm tomorrow March 23rd just west of the Potawatomi Conservatories.
