
City Security Expansion Project
The Citywide Security Expansion is a strategic initiative of the city under the Public Safety Security Enhancements umbrella of priorities. The ultimate goal is to deter crime and increase feelings of safety for businesses and residents.
Citywide Security Expansion
To date, the city has been working on the public branch of the program. We are expanding the already existing security network among city-owned properties.
Public Safety Technology
The expanded network is accessible accessible by the Real Time Crime Center, established in 2022 as part of this program. Additionally, the creation of the Sync South Bend cameras registry powered by Fusus.
Residents and Businesses
The Business Security Program is the latest initiative by the City to grant money and resources to local businesses in South Bend for security enhancements.

The Business Security Program was created as part of the business branch under the overall security expansion program. Under this program, businesses will have access to two different resources:
Security Assessment
Businesses in the City of South Bend can sign up for a free security assessment performed by a local security technical company. The Business Security Assessment sign-up form is now open to businesses on a first come, first serve basis.

Business Security Grant
The Business Security Grant Program will launch in August 2023, aimed at providing grants to help businesses subsidize the costs of buying security equipment. Businesses can sign up for our mailing list to receive updates on the grant program.

Is it free to join this program?
Yes! There is no cost associated with applying for both the security assessment and security grant.
Can I only apply for the security assessment but not the grant and vice versa?
Businesses can apply for both the assessment and grant program or for one of the programs. It is recommended that businesses interested in applying for the grant program register for the free assessment or have previously received a security assessment of their business.
When can I apply for the Business Security Grant?
The Business Security Grant Application will be open Thursday, August 31st, 2023 and remain open until Friday, October 13th, 2023.

Is the program open to nonprofits or tax-exempt organizations?
Unfortunately, this program is currently only available to businesses and property managers within the City of South Bend, If you are a charity, nonprofit, or a tax-exempt organization, we would like to note your interest, however, and follow-up with other programs/resources as they become available.
