The Main & Colfax parking garage will undergo repairs and improvements beginning Monday, April 1. The City awarded the $866,370 bid to D.C. Byers Company, which will complete the structural concrete repairs and main entry improvements. The garage currently has one entrance and two exit lanes. The new configuration will add an additional entrance lane, making it more efficient to enter the garage during large events. The ticket dispenser and gates will also be relocated from the entrance to the second floor to allow easier traffic flow. Other improvements include new signage, new entry doors to the pedestrian entrance, and new striping and numbering of parking spots.
The parking garage will be closed during construction, which is expected to take six weeks. Free two-hour parking is available on most downtown streets. Additional public parking can be found in the Leighton parking garage, located at Jefferson Boulevard and Michigan Street, and the Wayne Street parking garage at Wayne and Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard Jr. For a complete list of parking options, visit downtownsouthbend.com/parking.
The anticipated reopening date of the Main & Colfax garage is Monday, May 13.
