FEATURED UPDATE: POLICE TRANSPARENCY IN THE 21ST CENTURY
Revamping the Police Transparency Hub and Embracing Resident Feedback
The South Bend Police Department’s data transparency page was first created in 2017 and has evolved iteratively over the years. However in 2020 the City wanted to understand more deeply what residents expect to see and identify opportunities to improve the overall resident experience. A public SB UX session was held in February 2020 so that residents and stakeholders could come and provide feedback on how the transparency hub could improve. City staff also made changes in response to South Bend’s 21st Century Policing assessment, which was developed by 21CP.
The newest version of the Police transparency hub is a full data portal and was released on November 30, 2020. Check out some of the local news coverage here.
TRACKING OUR PROGRESS: CRIME & INCIDENTS DASHBOARD
Explore an interactive dashboard from the South Bend Police Department. This dashboard contains a map of recent crime related calls, crime stats, and definitions of crime data terms. Learn more about other visualizations on the Transparency Hub. Please note: The incidents on the Incident Map are calls that could become Part I Crime counts but are not officially determined and tallied until the following month. For the actual Part I Crime counts, please look at the Crime Summary Dashboard.
