September 30, 2022 — The City of South Bend Public Works Department announces that structural repairs on the East Bank Trail and Leeper Avenue bridge will start Monday, October 3. Repairs will include the replacement of a steel column and concrete foundation, and painting all repaired areas. The existing historical features of the bridge will be recreated where possible.
This section of the East Bank Trail and Leeper Avenue from North Shore Drive to Napoleon Street will remain closed until repairs are complete. The contractor has until the beginning of June 2023 to complete the repairs; although, work could be completed by the end of this year if weather permits.
