May 4, 2023 — The City of South Bend is expanding operating hours at its Organic Resources Facility, located at 4340 Trade Dr., to better serve area residents. The facility will now be open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through October 1. New weekday hours are 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Residents and businesses can drop off yard waste at the facility for a nominal fee. The cost of disposing yard waste is $3.65 per cubic yard for residents within South Bend city limits. For customers outside South Bend city limits (including five-digit South Bend addresses), the fee is $11 per cubic yard.
Yard waste brought to Organic Resources is converted into compost and mulch for area residents, which is available free of charge if self-loading, or for a fee if assistance is needed. Those self-loading must bring their own shovels and containers to collect the material. Loading of compost and mulch is available at the following rates:
- Up to four yards at a time: $5 per cubic yard + tax
- More than four yards: $9 per cubic yard for all yards, including the first four + tax
Loading of materials is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. (Note: The last loading time of the day is an hour before close.) No loading is available on Saturdays.
