August 21, 2019
The City of South Bend will host a neighborhood rehab event in the Lincoln-Bendix Park neighborhood as part of its Love Your Block program on Saturday, August 24. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., volunteers will be picking up litter, doing minor landscaping, and assisting with small home repairs in Love Your Block awardee homes.
Residents interested in volunteering and helping their neighbors with this event should report to the volunteer check in tent located at the Holy Trinity Church parking lot at 915 N. Olive St. Volunteer check-in beings at 8:30 a.m. Following the clean-ups, there will be a block party featuring free food, music, and games.
In 2018, the City of South Bend received a $25,000 grant from Cities of Service, an independent nonprofit organization that helps mayors and city leaders tap the knowledge, creativity, and service of citizens to solve public problems and create vibrant cities. The City’s Engagement and Economic Empowerment team is working with several neighborhoods using this grant money to support the efforts of citizen groups and local nonprofits to prevent or eliminate property blight through small home repairs and neighborhood clean-ups.
