The City of South Bend is actively monitoring outages throughout the area and is working with Indiana Michigan Power to quickly restore power to residents. The City would like to remind residents about the following:
Avoid downed wires but report them
Residents should avoid downed wires, as they could be energized and dangerous. They should also stay away from anything that the downed wires could be touching, such as fences hidden under tree limbs. Downed wires should be reported to Indiana Michigan power at 800-311-4634; if wires are sparking, residents should call 911.
Freezing of water pipes
If room temperatures fall to 32 degrees Fahrenheit, water pipes could freeze and burst, causing flooding and damage to homes. If residents are without power, it is advised to turn on faucets and keep to a trickle.
Be a good neighbor
Check on neighbors, specifically the elderly and those with special health considerations, to make sure they are okay and to see if they need assistance.
Report outages and check on restoration time
Residents can report outages or check on restoration information at indianamichiganpower.com/outages or by calling 800-311-4634.
