The City of South Bend announced today a second round of its Acts of Kindness and Digital Neighborhoods Grants, as well as a new Tend the Bend trailer for use in support of neighborhood beautification efforts.
This summer the Engagement & Economic Empowerment team awarded 15 Acts of Kindness Grants and launched the Digital Neighborhood Grant to keep neighbors safely connected and engaged. The Acts of Kindness grants, ranging in size from $250 to $350, go toward residents or organizations nominated to develop new programs. The Digital Neighborhood Grants are available to assist neighborhood organizations in improving their digital engagement with residents, through training on remote communications software and devices for improving video quality.
“The summer grant awardees created youth engagement activities, a neighborhood-based small business scavenger hunt, delivered thousands of facemasks and hand sanitizer, and inspired their neighbors in invaluable ways,” said Director of Engagement & Economic Empowerment Alkeyna Aldridge, “I’m excited to see what additional impact neighborhood leaders can create this round with further resources and the Tend the Bend tool library.”
The Tend the Bend Trailer is outfitted with tools such as lawnmowers, rakes, weed whackers, and various other tools to support neighborhood beautification efforts and blight elimination.
Any resident-led organization, including churches, nonprofits and neighborhood organizations, can book the trailer to support their blight elimination efforts.
