Mayor Pete Buttigieg has declared the City of South Bend under a local disaster emergency and issued a travel advisory for all flooded areas at 4:15 p.m. today. Residents are advised to restrict non-essential travel near flooded areas including closed streets; however, essential travel such as going to and from work is not impacted.
Even though the rain has ended, river levels will continue to rise into tomorrow. The City expects the river levels to peak at 13’ some time tonight. The City will not reopen streets until they are safe and will be issuing tickets to drivers who disobey barriers on closed streets.
The following streets have been added to the list of street closures:
– Michigan Street from North Shore Drive to Bartlett roundabout
– North Shore Drive from Angela Boulevard to Michigan Street

The O’Brien Center continues to remain open as an emergency center in case residents cannot stay at their home and need a place to go. Due to flooding at Michigan and Walter Streets, residents will need to enter Walter St. via Fellows St.
