Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced today that Deputy Chief of Staff and Policy Director Suzanna Fritzberg would be leaving the City in the coming weeks to accept a position at Schmidt Futures in New York City, where she will drive grantmaking in the area of economic mobility, investing in ideas and projects that strengthen the middle class.
Fritzberg joined the City as Deputy Chief of Staff in 2016 and assumed the role of Policy Director in 2017. During her time in the Mayor’s Office, Fritzberg chaired the Mayor’s Working Group on Chronic Homelessness, spearheaded the City’s initiative to combat childhood lead exposure, secured over $3 million in state and federal grants for home remediation, and recently developed and secured the passage of an ordinance establishing the Rental Safety Verification Program.
In addition to her appointment on the City of South Bend Board of Public Works, Suzanna also served on the Board of Directors of United Way of St. Joseph County and as a member of the Lead Affinity Group.
“Suzanna Fritzberg has been a superb public servant for the City of South Bend.” said Mayor Pete Buttigieg. “Her intellect, energy, and work ethic have helped us to deliver results for our community on issues ranging from homelessness to public health. I will miss her as a member of the leadership team, but we wish her well as she pursues a new opportunity to make impact.”
“Serving the residents of South Bend has been an honor, a challenge, and an education,” said Fritzberg. “I am tremendously grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside the talented City team, build partnerships with dedicated community members, and make progress on issues critical to South Bend’s continued revitalization.”
