About this grant
The Business Security Grant is an initiative that will sponsor new technology installations or upgrades in storefronts across the city. Businesses can apply for up to $5,000 of funds for eligible expenses like cameras, cloud storage, or lighting. In addition to improving the infrastructure and safety of participating businesses, the Business Security Grant Program also aims to expand partnerships with the South Bend Police Department.
Grant amounts of up to $5,000 will be awarded based on security needs.

Who can apply?
Local businesses and property managers with physical locations in South Bend may apply for this grant. This does not include businesses operating out of residential addresses.
Documents Needed
Grant Spending Plan
Businesses will need to submit a grant spending plan which outlines the type of security expenses purchased or to be purchased and the estimated costs. If you are not sure how to complete your spending plan, you can apply for a free business security assessment from the city.
Selection Process
Preferential consideration will be given to businesses willing to opt-in to the Real Time Crime Center camera integration through Fusus. Learn more at syncsouthbend.org.
Awarding Grants
Grant award notifications will go out after the application closes and grantees are selected.
Grantees will be required sign a grant agreement and add their business to the directory via registration at syncsouthbend.org.
Eligible expenses
Purchases made for any of these expenses on or after January 1st, 2023 still qualify for funding on a reimbursement basis.

Recommended minimum specifications are resolution of 1080p or 3MP, 30 fps, IR night vision, internet upload speeds of 10Mbps, and 60GB of storage per camera.

Is this grant only for downtown businesses?
No. We welcome any local business with a physical commercial location within South Bend to apply.

How long is the application open?
The deadline to apply for the Business Security Grant is October 13th, 2023.
How long do I have to spend funds?
You will have 6 months to submit proof of intent for spend down of funds, with the option to request an extension with supporting documentation.

Will city personnel help with the installation of security equipment?
No; but businesses are able to use the grant money to to pay for installation needs.

Suggested minimum specifications for security cameras include;

What is the difference between registration and integration?
Registration: Enables the South Bend Police Department to know a camera is present at your location and easily request video evidence should an incident occur.
Integration: Allows the South Bend Police Department access to your camera feed in case of an emergency near your location.

To integrate your cameras, you will need to purchase a small fususCORE device that plugs into your camera system.
