The South Bend Board of Public Safety approved the implementation of the police discipline matrix at its meeting on July 15.
“This is an important step in the ongoing process of reforming our public safety systems. The additional public feedback over the past several months improved the matrix and helped us find the right balance for our community and officers,” said Mayor James Mueller. “This matrix will be a living document as we begin its implementation. I am grateful to the Board of Public Safety for providing more time for more public input and their support of this step today.”
The matrix incorporates two rounds of feedback gathered from the public electronically and through previous Community Action Group meetings, and includes six levels of possible misconduct with discipline for each category of violation.
