The City of South Bend Department of Public Works announces the following traffic alerts beginning Monday, August 22, weather permitting.
State Road 23 (August 22 to November 23, weather permitting)
Beginning Monday, August 22, State Road 23 from Magnolia Road to Ice Trail will be temporarily restricted to a single lane for the installation of water main extension. Temporary portable traffic control signals will be placed along State Road 23 to maintain two-way traffic. Restrictions will in place until the project is completed Wednesday, November 23, weather permitting.
Western Avenue (August 22 to October 5, weather permitting)
Also, starting Monday, August 22, NIPSCO will be performing maintenance work on a gas line on Western Avenue at the Mayflower Road intersection. Access will be maintained to all businesses in the impacted areas. Detour routes will be Sample Street via Mayflower Road or Chapin Street.
The following schedule and street closures will be in place:
• August 22 – September 13: Eastbound lanes of Western Avenue from Mayflower Road to 300 feet east of the intersection will be closed.
• September 13 – September 15: Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Western Avenue from Mayflower Road to 300 feet east will be closed.
• September 15 – October 5: Eastbound lanes reopen but the westbound lanes remain closed until October 5, weather permitting.
