March 22, 2021
Starting Tuesday, March 23, the next phase of construction for the Olive Street Pavement Replacement Project will get underway. The project includes the replacement of the concrete pavement on Olive Street from Prairie Avenue/State Road 23 to Indiana Court. Once Olive Street is reopened to full traffic, the street will be a three-lane corridor – two travel lanes with a center turn lane. Other improvements include new curb ramps, storm sewers, driveway approaches and a multipurpose trail on the east side of the street.
The southbound detour for Olive Street will be east on Sample Street, south on Prairie Avenue/State Road 23 before rejoining Olive. Northbound traffic on Olive will be maintained throughout the entire project. A detour map is attached.
Access to all businesses in the impacted areas will be maintained during construction.
The $3.3 million bid was awarded to Walsh & Kelly, Inc. (now Milestone Contractors North) in 2020. Eighty percent of the costs for the project will come through federal funding, with 20 percent covered locally.
The first phase of construction at the intersection at Olive and Calvert streets intersection was completed last fall. The anticipated completion date for this project is end of October, weather permitting.
