The City of South Bend’s annual Yard Waste season begins Monday, April 2, 2018 and will run through Friday, November 30, 2018. The Division of Solid Waste will also offer an amnesty period for the month of April. During the amnesty period, all yard waste extra pick-ups will be free for residents, whether or not they participate in the yard waste program. Yard waste pick-up occurs on the same day as trash pick-up. To schedule a pick-up, residents can call the City’s resident-service line, 311, Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., or can submit a request at southbendin.gov/extrapickup.
For extra pick-ups, residents need to follow these guidelines:
All bags must be the brown, biodegradable paper leaf bags and completely void of any trash debris.
Branches need to be cut to four (4) feet or shorter, be no more than four (4) inches in diameter, and bundled securely with twine into manageable bundles.
All items must be curbside by 6:00 a.m. on trash day as no items will be picked in the alley.
Yard waste needs to be away from any cars, containers, mailboxes, trees or any other obstructions. Items cannot be under any powerlines or branches.
No plastic of any kind will be accepted.
To participate in the City’s Yard Waste program, residents are required to rent a city-furnished container to receive automatic weekly yard waste collection on the same day as trash pick-up. A 48- or 96-gallon yard waste container will be provided for $2 per month, or a total of $16 for the 2018 yard waste season. To sign up for yard waste collection, please call 311 or visit southbendin.gov/yard-waste-container-request.
