The City of South Bend will be offering free Christmas tree disposal after the holiday for residents within city limits. Residents have two options for Christmas tree disposal:
Option 1: Schedule a pickup by submitting the webform at southbendin.gov/treepickup or by calling 311. Residents must have trash services provided through the City to participate in the program. This will not affect residents’ monthly extra pickup.
The Christmas Tree disposal program is ongoing from Tuesday, December 26, 2017 through Thursday, February 1, 2018. After February 1, 2018, the pickup will count as residents’ monthly yard waste extra pickup.
Residents are asked to follow these guidelines for safe and efficient tree pickup:
All trees should be placed at curbside by 6:00 a.m. Do not place trees in the street or in alleys. Please make sure the tree is not near any cars, mailboxes, containers or under any low hanging power lines or tree limbs.
Please remove all lights, ornaments, and metal, including tree stands or nails, and any plastic coverings before discarding Christmas trees. They will not be picked up if still ornamented. Items left on trees can injure employees or seriously damage the tree shredding equipment, leaving it inoperable.
Artificial trees and trees containing any metal, glass, or wire will not be collected and will be the owner’s responsibility to dispose.
Option 2: Drop trees off at Organic Resources, 4340 Trade Dr., South Bend, IN 46628
Note: The fee will be waived for disposal of Christmas trees only. Trees must be dropped off during business hours: 8:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. (Closed 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.)
Residents must only live within city limits to use free drop off. Pinhook Park is no longer a drop off location.
For further information on Christmas tree disposal, please call the City of South Bend’s 311 customer service.
