The City of South Bend has secured additional funding for road projects through the state of Indiana’s Community Crossings Matching Grant. The City was awarded $367,634.15 and will match the grant with local funds. The funds will be used in 2020 to pave 4.3 lane miles and update cross ramps of four streets to ADA standards.
The four roadways to be paved are:
- Ameritech Drive from Cleveland Road to Carbonmill
- Ironwood Drive from Ireland Road to city limits
- Miami Street from Ireland Road to Widener Lane
- Olive Street from Elwood Avenue to Lincoln Way West
“We are pleased to receive additional road funding for this project,” said Public Works Director Eric Horvath. “It’s important for us to leverage City resources to go even farther when it comes to improving our roads that need repair.”
The project will be publicly bid in the coming months with work planned for 2020.
The 2019 Community Crossings grant offered two opportunities to apply for funding. The City applied to both rounds and received a total of $967,556.54 in additional funding. Earlier this year, the City received $599,922.39 to fund paving projects on Corby and Jefferson Boulevards, Linden Avenue and Riverside Drive.
The Community Crossings Matching Grant is a partnership between the Indiana Department of Transportation and local communities, to invest in road projects that catalyze economic development, create jobs and strengthen local transportation networks.
