Understanding and Reducing Water Shutoffs
This SB Stat meeting focused on a number of analyses and projects related to water shutoffs. It highlights an analysis completed by the University of Chicago’s Center for Data Science and Public Policy, a randomized control trial completed with support from the Behavioral Insights Team, and evaluates outcomes of the Utility’s extension program.
Customer Interactions: 311 Calls and Payment Patterns
The Utility was interested in using data to better understanding customer interactions, which we looked at through two lenses for this meeting: 311 calls and payment patterns. For 311 calls, we focused on frequency and topic of calls over time. For payment patterns, we worked to better understand the proportions and patterns in the different forms (credit card, cash, check, bank draft, etc.) and methods (in person, online, automated, etc.) that are utilized by residents across the City to pay their Utility bill each month.
