Event Details:

What: South Bend Fire Department to Host Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House Event for Fire Station #8

When: Sunday, October 20 from 12-5pm

Where: Fire Station #8, 2402 S. Twyckenham Street

Background:

Engine Company #8 was originally organized with the South Bend Fire Department in 1906 and was located at 135 S. Olive.  As the department reorganized, Engine 8 was relocated to its current location at 2402 S. Twyckenham in 1968, taking the place of then Engine #14. The station at S. Twyckenham was built in 1956 and had become obsolete in its accommodation over the years. The new fire station will meet the needs of our personnel and continue to house Engine #8 and add paramedic chase vehicle #1661.

R. Yoder Construction was the General Contractor for the project which included the complete demolition of the original building and construction of the new fire station. They worked diligently to keep the project on schedule and within budget while working inside the constraints of a very compact job site. The project was a true team effort that involved multiple valued trade contractors on-site along with the Architect, Shive Hattery, the South Bend Fire Department, and the City of South Bend team.
