Frequently Asked Questions application process Who can participate? Incumbent workers from City of South Bend-based manufacturing companies. How is this program funded? The program is made available through the City of South Bend’s Pathways On-Demand Workforce Development grant. This grant is made available through the Community Investment Department of the City. How do I sign up? A representative of your company can sign up multiple people on the Registration Form Register now at https://forms.office.com/r/5N39z9pSUs Information for each attendee will be collected, along with mentor information on behalf of each company. Certificates & Training When and where are the trainings being held? Please refer to the flyers for each training regarding dates. These dates are subject to change. Most classes will be held at the Technology Resource Center (TRC) in South Bend’s Ignition Park. More details to follow. Is there a limit to the number of people in each class? Yes, there are a maximum number of participants in each class. So don’t wait to register for the class of your choice! Leadership training: Skills for Success for Frontline Leaders (Supervisors/ Team Leads) – maximum of 12 registrations Leadership training: Skills for Success for Managers – maximum of 12 registrations Industrial Maintenance training: Electrical Fundamentals – maximum of 12 registrations Industrial Maintenance training: AC Motor Controls and Relay Ladder Logic – maximum of 12 registrations Industrial Maintenance training: Pneumatics – Level 1 – maximum of 12 registrations Lean Certification: Team Member Certification Training – maximum of 40 registrations Lean Certification: Lean Implementation Leader Certification Training – maximum of 10 registrations What happens if I must miss a class? Every attempt should be made to attend every class in the training series. Certificates can only be given to those that have attended all sessions and submitted a project. Is the Lean Team Member Certification Training different than the Lean Implementation Leader Certification Training? Yes. The Lean Team Member Certification training is a 3-day series covering: Principles of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Problem Solving and Root Cause Analysis. The Lean Implementation Leader Certification Training is an 8-day series with five days dedicated to classroom work and project presentations. The remaining three days will be spent at a facility completing a Kaizen event. The Lean Implementation Leader attendees will be required to complete an instructor-approved project and pass the written exam. Lean Implementation Leaders must register for both the Lean Team Member Certification Training and the Lean Implementation Leader Training. It is recommended that a mentor from each company is available for those completing the Lean Team Member Certification Training and Lean Implementation Leader Certification Training courses. I would like to be considered as a host site for the 3-day Kaizen event being completed by the Lean Implementation Leader Certification attendees. Who can provide me with more information? What kind of information will I need to submit at the completion of the trainings? Every employer must provide the City of South Bend with data on employee skills gained and other related information. In addition, Purdue MEP will be in contact with participants with additional information on Impact Survey requirements.
