Mayor James Mueller has announced his appointment of Sandra Kennedy to serve as Corporation Counsel for the City of South Bend.
“I’m thrilled to appoint Sandra to this position and look forward to her continued service to the residents of South Bend,” said Mayor James Mueller. “I also want to thank Chuck Leone for stepping in to serve as interim corporation counsel as we conducted this hiring process. His experience and expertise is invaluable to our team.”
Kennedy has served as an Assistant City Attorney in the Legal Department since 2018. She has represented the Department of Community Investment and the Department of Innovation & Technology, and her work has included negotiations to implement a new financial management software system, grant agreements, development agreements, and real estate agreements.
“I am excited to accept the appointment to serve the City as its next Corporation Counsel, and I hope to continue the excellent leadership provided by my predecessors. I am looking forward to guiding the Legal Department as we assist the other departments in their delivery of services to the residents of and visitors to South Bend,” Kennedy said.
Prior to joining the City of South Bend, Kennedy worked for various public and private entities with focuses on transactional and civil litigation practice. Kennedy is a graduate of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law and received her bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College. She also holds master’s degrees from Purdue University Northwest.
Kennedy will officially assume the role on August 9.
