Funding is still available for the City of South Bend’s 2018 Curb and Sidewalk Reimbursement Program, which assists property owners in making needed repairs to curbs and sidewalks abutting their properties. This program can also be used to add new curbs and sidewalks where there are gaps in existing connections.
“We want residents to know the City is making resources available to them to improve the condition of their sidewalks. This is a great program that residents can take advantage of to improve their neighborhood’s aesthetics and walkability,” says Public Works Director Eric Horvath.
The reimbursement rate is $20 per linear foot for sidewalk and $15 per linear foot for curbs. All work must be done by licensed contractors bonded with the Department of Public Works. In addition, for certain properties the City will reimburse up to $950 for the construction of accessible sidewalk ramps in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
To participate in the program, residents need to fill out an application and receive pre-approval from the City prior to any construction. The final reimbursement form, including contractor signature confirming that the work is complete, must be submitted by November 19, 2018.
