South Bend Code Enforcement, Rebuilding Together, St. Joseph Valley Building Trades, and Back the Bend have teamed up to help a resident with needed home repairs. On April 14 volunteers from Notre Dame and Code Enforcement will assist a South Bend homeowner with her structurally damaged home. Skilled workers from St. Joseph Valley Building Trades have already spent time repairing electrical and plumbing issues, and volunteers from Notre Dame’s Back the Bend and Code Enforcement will work on repairing structural damage, painting, plaster work, and on other issues that need attention on Saturday.
“Whenever homeowners attend code hearings, we direct those who struggle financially or physically to a list of resources that may be able to help with the required property repairs,” said Deputy Director of Code Enforcement Tracy Skibins. “In this case, a number of community partners were able to pitch in and help make the necessary improvements.”
Anyone wishing to volunteer can do so by registering at backthebend.nd.edu and clicking on the “Help Repair a Neighbor’s Home” tab. For a list of resources available to residents facing Code violations, go to southbendin.gov/government/department/code-enforcement.
