Mayor Pete Buttigieg and representatives of the League of American Bicyclists and the Bike Michiana Coalition will unveil a new Bike Friendly Community (BFC) sign to mark South Bend’s Silver Level designation from the League of American Bicyclists on Wednesday, August 15. The sign unveiling will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the northeast corner of Washington Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
This designation recognizes South Bend for “impressive commitments to bicycling” through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure and pro-bicycling policies. South Bend is only the second Indiana community to ever receive the Silver BFC designation. Furthermore, South Bend joins just eight other Midwestern cities with a population of 100,000 or more to receive a Silver Level or higher BFC designation.
