April 9, 2019 –
The City of South Bend has secured additional funding for road projects through the state of Indiana’s Community Crossings Matching Grant. The City was awarded $599,922.39 and will match the grant with local funds. The funds will be used to pave 10 lane miles and to update cross ramps to ADA standards of four streets in 2019.
The Community Crossings Matching Grant is a partnership between the Indiana Department of Transportation and local communities, to invest in infrastructure projects that catalyze economic development, create jobs and strengthen local transportation networks.
The four roadways to be paved are:
- Corby Boulevard from Ironwood Drive to Manchester Drive,
- Jefferson Boulevard from Ironwood Drive to Logan Street
- Linden Avenue from Mayflower Road to Lombardy Drive,
- Riverside Drive from Angela Boulevard to Academy Place.
“We welcome this additional funding, while continuing to seek new funding sources to keep pace with road improvement needs,” said Mayor Pete Buttigieg. “I encourage state and federal leaders to continue boosting investment so that South Bend and other cities can maintain safe, smooth, and sustainable streets for residents.”
The construction schedule for these streets will be determined after the project is publicly bid in the coming weeks. Work is expected to begin this summer.
