The City of South Bend announced today that City Controller Jennifer Hockenhull would be leaving the City in the coming weeks to join family in Washington State. She has accepted the Controller position at Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington.
Hockenhull joined the City as Deputy Controller in 2014 and became Controller in May 2017. During her tenure as Controller, Hockenhull presided over two budget processes, maintained the City’s AA bond rating, and earned national recognition by receiving PAFR, CAFR, and budget book awards from the Government Finance Officers Association. Hockenhull also participated in the IUSB Leighton School of Business Mentorship program, hosted high school students for the INCPAS Scholar Program, and set up the inaugural Girls on the Run program at Kennedy Primary Academy.
“I want to thank Jen for her superb service to the City,” said Mayor Pete Buttigieg. “Under her direction, the City has continuously improved our budget process and earned several awards for financial transparency. We will miss her excellent work and leadership, but she leaves our Finance team in a strong position as we seek a successor to fill her shoes.”
“It has been an honor and a pleasure to work with everyone involved in the City,” said Hockenhull. “I appreciate the amazing work that is being done by Mayor Pete, the Common Council, department heads, the Finance team, and all City employees who work tirelessly to make this City such a great place to work and live. It has been incredible opportunity to be a part of the ever-changing City of South Bend and I will sincerely miss working with this amazing team.”
The City Controller position has been posted and is accepting applications.
