The City of South Bend and the Family & Children’s Center Foundation, in partnership with the United Way of St. Joseph County and the Ready to Grow St. Joe Early Childhood Coalition, has announced the launch of a grant program to increase access to high-quality early education in South Bend.
The City is contributing $100,000 to an early childhood capacity fund. The Family & Children’s Center Foundation has contributed an additional $40,000. United Way will manage the $140,000 fund and competitively distribute it to local childcare providers for quality improvements that improve rankings on the State of Indiana’s Paths to Quality ranking system.
Home providers, center-based providers and faith-based providers are all eligible to apply for grant funds, which are capped at $15,000 per provider, and can be used for materials, space improvements, curriculum, and other supports for high-quality care. The application window will open April 2 and will be accessible via the United Way website at www.uwsjc.org or by calling 574-232-8201 (ext. 223).
