May 2, 2022– Today the City of South Bend and La Casa de Amistad announced new support for immigrants in South Bend. The City will provide funds to La Casa to contract interpretation and translation services and to deliver legal and transportation services for immigrants, including the more than 60 recently resettled Afghans in South Bend.
“La Casa has extensive experience supporting immigrants in South Bend, and we are proud to partner with them to strengthen immigrant families in the city,” said Mayor James Mueller. “South Bend is a welcoming city for all, and I am proud that we embrace our diversity.”
La Casa estimates that this funding could benefit 350 or more individuals in South Bend.
“This partnership and investment will make an immense impact on our immigrant families,” said Juan Constantino, Executive Director of La Casa de Amistad. “We are thankful to the City for their support and for making our community more welcoming for our new neighbors.”
