Mayor Pete Buttigieg and the Department of Public Works will highlight the 2018 Lamppost Lighting Program on Thursday, October 4 at 11:30 a.m. Mayor Buttigieg will install a solar-powered lamppost at a resident’s home at 815 Cottage Grove Avenue.
The Lamppost Lighting Program assists homeowners with lighting enhancements to their neighborhoods through front yard lamppost installations. For 2018, the City has selected two target areas based on income, number of vacant lots, and need for lighting in the neighborhood.
The residential Lamppost Lighting Program is a cost-share program between the homeowner and the City to install a lamppost for their home. Homeowners who live within target areas will pay a lower share of the total cost of the program:
– Within target areas, homeowners pay 10% of total lamppost cost: $40.00
– Outside target areas, homeowners pay 50% of total lamppost cost: $200.00
Since 2015, the Division of Engineering has conducted a residential Lamppost Lighting Program as a part of Light Up South Bend. The purpose of Light Up South Bend is to improve residential neighborhood safety through the installation of additional street lighting, including both street lights and residential lampposts.
