Starting Thursday, August 16, the eastbound lane of Colfax Avenue will close to vehicular traffic from Woodward Court to Michigan Street as part of the Downtown Cross Streets Improvement Project. Vehicular traffic will be allowed eastbound from Colfax Avenue to Woodward Court. Pedestrian access to the businesses on the north side of Colfax will be maintained and the sidewalk will be fully restored by Thursday, August 23, weather permitting.
The westbound lane of Colfax is still under construction and remains closed. Woodward Court from Colfax Avenue to Washington Street remains open.
Designed for the secondary streets in downtown South Bend, the 2018 Cross Streets Improvement Project will include new lighting, curbs, sidewalks and landscape improvements to Michigan Street between Colfax and LaSalle Avenues as well as Colfax Avenue between MLK Jr. Blvd and Main Street. Continuing the momentum of attracting business development to downtown, this project is intended to enhance overall quality of life by contributing to a more vibrant and pedestrian friendly atmosphere.
