The City of South Bend is warning residents that Thursday’s predicted rainfall will increase the water level of the St. Joseph River. The current water level has dropped to 8.8’, which is below major flood stage. The National Weather Service is predicting the river water level to rise to 10.3’ by Friday, March 2 at 1:00 p.m. Forecasted water levels can be found here: http://bit.ly/SJRhydrology.
Although the City does not anticipate the same flooding levels as last week’s peak, residents are encouraged to be diligent about rising water levels near the river. The City reminds residents to follow road and park signs barring entry. Even if areas are dry, they remain closed until they pass safety inspection.
