The Division of Engineering is comprised of the following bureaus:
- The Bureau of Design and Administration
- Sets standards for public improvements
- Issues permits
- Administers consulting contracts for Public Works projects
- Administers projects sponsored by other City of South Bend agencies
- The Bureau of Public Construction
- Inspects construction of public facilities
- Reviews plans and specifications of consultants for Public Works and new subdivisions
- The Geographical Information System (G.I.S.) 574.235.5996
- Allows for intelligent maps by using a computer
- Locations and information about streets and utilities are available via the computer for the analysis and design of sewer and street networks around the City of South Bend
